Those who take mobile gaming seriously will have a new option on the market soon. Asus announced this Thursday (13) its ROG Phone 7, a smartphone aimed at gamers. Among the highlights, the device features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 8,533 Mbps LPDDR5X RAM, 165 Hz screen and renewed cooling system.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the same one, presented by Qualcomm in November 2022. It reaches 3.2 GHz of CPU frequency. According to Asus, there is a power gain of 15% on the CPU and 20% on the GPU. In terms of energy efficiency, the evolution was also 15%.
Asus also made customizations to the ROG Phone 7 to make the most of the chip or use less battery, depending on the configuration.
One of the system’s power usage modes is X Mode, for maximum performance. It shifts simple tasks that would otherwise be relegated to the CPU’s three energy-saving cores to the four performance cores. Dynamic Mode balances speed and expense.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is not alone. The RAM, up to 16 GB, is of the LPDDR5X standard, which reaches up to 8,533 Mbps of data transfer. Storage of up to 512GB is UFS 4.0 — Asus says it’s twice as fast as the previous generation.
Cooling to help performance
Anyone who has played on their cell phone for some time knows that it can get very hot, and this causes the device to lose performance. Asus promises greater stability thanks to a three-pronged cooling approach.
One is the use of boron nitride on one side of the processor to reduce throttling in short gaming sessions. Another feature is the vapor chamber and graphite foils, used on the other side of the processor to dissipate heat.
The third and last one is already a tradition of the ROG Phone line: the AeroActive Cooler 7 fan, which can be attached to the back of the device and is positioned over the CPU. It also helps to cool the screen, to ensure more comfort during games.

screen and controls
Every gamer knows how important the screen’s refresh rate is, both for the fluidity of the images and the shorter reaction time. ROG Phone 7 delivers up to 165Hz, with 720Hz of touch tracking.
The refresh rate is variable, with options of 60, 90, 120, 144 and 165 Hz, to better adapt to the chosen game.
The device also has air triggers, ultrasonic buttons on the side to work as triggers. They support different movement types.
The device’s system allows you to map screen touches and offers specific vibrations for different regions, as a way to give some haptic feedback to game actions.
Asus has also tried to perfect Android 13 and build in interesting features for gamers.
One of them is the background mode, which lets you leave the game running in the background, with notifications for important events, detected by artificial intelligence, and macros to continue commands while the user is doing something else.
Still in software, the ROG Phone 7 has been optimized for popular games such as Genshin Impact, Valor Arena and Diablo Immortal, among others.
Asus also promises two Android updates and four years of security updates.
sound and connectivity
For those gaming without headphones, the ROG Phone 7 features dual 12mm by 16mm front-facing speakers. The AeroActive Cooler helps too, with a 13mm by 38mm subwoofer.
If the player is going to use headphones, the cell phone has the Snapdragon Sound platform, which promises a high quality Bluetooth connection and low latency.
Still in connectivity, the ROG Phone 7 already has Wi-Fi 7, with 320 MHz channels for greater performance.
price and availability
Asus starts pre-ordering the ROG Phone 7 for Taiwan and Europe this Thursday (13). He should arrive in Brazil in the second half of 2023, still without a confirmed date. Prices were not disclosed.
